Five killed, four missing in deadly gun battle in Marsabit

Marsabit, Kenya: Five people have been confirmed dead and four missing following gun battle between two communities at Dukana area in Marsabit County. Twelve others were also injured in the fight.

The incident took place at remote Buluk area, a few kilometers from the Ethiopian border on Tuesday and news of the battle reached Marsabit headquarters on Wednesday evening.

Marsabit County Commissioner Peter Thuku and his police counterpart Bernard Kogo said so far five bodies have been found at the scene while four people are still missing, three days after the incident.

Thuku, speaking to The Standard on phone, said 12 other people sustained gunshot wounds and are undergoing treatment at various health facilities including Marsabit County Hospital.

''We can only confirm five people are dead and not nine because we have not found the bodies of the other four. They are listed as missing,'' said the administrator.

Kogo, while also on phone, said security personnel led by North Horr OCPD are at Dukana to pursue those who participated in the gun battle and assess the security situation.

''The police led by the OCPD are already on the ground to assess the situation and pursue the attackers,'' said Kogo.
