State unveils plan to build more houses

Nairobi; Kenya: The Government has identified Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as a fast way of increasing access to affordable housing.
Land, Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Mariamu El Maawy said the model is set to unlock the huge investment potential in the housing sector. "The PPP is a perfect model to leverage on and ensure there is affordable housing in the country by roping in civil servants into the project," she said. The PS spoke in Nairobi, in reference to the ongoing Government programme to construct about 10,000 housing units set to benefit civil servants. The multi-billion shilling plan targets to construct housing units, with the initial phase being in Nairobi. "We have shortlisted bidders to undertake the project as part of government plan to enable many people afford and access decent housing," she said.
