Twenty-four-year-old Felix Kangongo is the winner of this year’s Kajiado County Half Marathon held last weekend.

Kangongo clocked one hour 20 minutes to finish the 21km race that started at the Kajiado KCB Stadium through its environs with a huge number of athletes taking part.

He was followed by Noah Chengap while Robert Langat scooped third position.

Kajiado County Governor David Nkedianye flagged off the race after running in a two-kilometre race.

Over 1000 runners contested in the road race sponsored by the County Government and the Coco-Cola company.

According to the Governor, the race was meant to promote girl child education by purchasing sanitary towels to be used by pupils and students in the primary and secondary schools within the rural areas.

“We are very grateful for the good turnout during this competition. This will enable us to also purchase solar lamps to be used by residents in the rural part of our county,” said Nkedianye.

Athletics Kenya South Rift Branch Vice Chairman Joseph Kasaine told FeverPitch he was happy with the attendance and promised to organise the event twice every year.

Meanwhile, A quarter of the 12 accolades on offer at the Golden Podium Awards earlier this month went to athletics.

At the awards ceremony held in Monaco on October 8 during the Sportel convention, a slow-motion clip of a baton exchange at the IAAF World Relays took the IOC Grand Prize. A documentary on Usain Bolt won the ‘Image of the 25 years of Sportel’.
