Lawyers plan boycott over unresolved grievance

Nakuru , Kenya: Lawyers in Nakuru on Friday made another resolution to boycott pauper briefs at Nakuru Law Courts in protest of the Judiciary's failure to transfer a High Court Judge from the Nakuru station.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Rift Valley branch officials had last month made an unsuccessful resolution to boycott proceedings in Lady Justice Abigael Mshila's court until she is transferred.

Speaking at the meeting after making the resolution, LSK Rift Valley Chairman David Mongeri said they have petitioned Chief Justice Willy Mutunga twice but issues raised remain unresolved.

"We have now decided not to take up pauper briefs until remandees at Nakuru Prison also feel the need for our concerns to be heard by the CJ," Mongeri said.

The official said this boycott begins today and a circular urging LSK members not take up new briefs or continue with those pending in court will also be put up.
