Bodies of two men found dumped in Athi River by boda boda riders

Police in Athi River have recovered two bodies of people suspected to have been murdered and dumped in a river.

The bodies of the two well-dressed men were spotted under a bridge in Athi River by boda boda riders who were washing their motorcycles early yesterday morning, and who reported the matter to the police.

Residents rushed to the scene to try and identify the bodies, which had marks on the neck. The men’s shoes, watches and mobile phones were intact.

It took police more than three hours to retrieve the bodies from the hippo-infested river as residents told The Standard that this was not the first time bodies have been found dumped in the river.

“This area has now been nicknamed ‘killer bridge’. Last Saturday, yet another body was found dumped here and this is now the eighth such incident witnessed here in the past six months,” said Samuel Kioko, a resident.

The locals are now urging police to intensify patrols in the area to avert more deaths.

Athi River police boss Kizito Mutoro asked residents who might have lost their loved ones to report to the police station or go to the city mortuary to identify the bodies.

“We are not ruling out murder at this time but we leave it to the experts to give an account of what could have happened,” he said.
