URP leader calls for political sobriety

ITEN, KENYA: The Elgeyo Marakwet United Republican Party (URP) branch has called for sobriety and political tolerance as the push for a referendum gains momentum.

Through county chairman John Kangogo, the party called on political leaders to avoid divisive politics as governors launched the collection of signatures for their referendum bid.

"Ugly scenes have already been witnessed at various rallies organised by politicians from both sides and this should be avoided to ensure that there is tranquillity in the country and allow space for development issues," said Mr Kangogo.

The URP leader warned the ongoing debates should be handled maturely to avoid dividing the country and undermining development.
