Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro calls for enhanced oversight in counties

Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro has called on county assemblies to play their oversight role in stemming corruption.

Ethuro, who was speaking in Nakuru County, said corruption must be fought at the grassroots if devolution is to succeed.

He challenged the county assemblies to play their role without fear or favour.

"When county assemblies impeach a governor, they have not overstepped their mandate but are simply carrying out their watchdog role," he said.

Speaking at a different forum, Senate Finance Committee chair Billow Kerrow raised concern over the lack of accountability for funds allocated to county assemblies.
