The Sydney Daily Telegraph published the controversial shot less than a week after German publication Bild ran the picture

A newspaper in Australia has waded in on the controversy over the pictures of Kate Middleton's bare bottom and published the image.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph ran the pictures today saying that it was "ridiculous" to follow suit with the UK's media which decides against publishing such images of the royals.

The revealing pictures were taken when Kate's blue and white Diane Von Furstenberg dress blew up on a visit to Sydney's Blue mountains during her official tour of Australia last month.

No British magazine or newspaper would publish them so they were sold overseas in a move that will deeply dismay Prince William and Kate.

A piece has been published the Rupert Murdoch owned title under the headline: "Why should the media stick to an antiquated code of etiquette when Kate doesn’t bother to protect her own modesty?"

In her piece, writer Annette Sharp says: "Why would the cheeky French, German and American media, with no Commonwealth ties to Britain, be ­expected to honour such an antiquated code of ­etiquette? Why should the media be responsible for turning a blind eye when the royals aren’t always vigilant about keeping themselves nice?"

German newspaper Bild features the shot on their website along with another picture of Kate in Canada in 2011 when her yellow Jenny Packham dress did exactly the same thing.

Both pictures were taken shortly after she disembarked from a helicopter, with the wind from the propellers causing her dress to blow up.

The photographs have sparked comments online about why Kate doesn't wear weights in her hems like the Queen to avoid future wardrobe mishaps.

One Twitter user wrote: "Why doesn't she weight her hems?"

Kate and William have faced frequent battles to protect their privacy and modesty by preventing the publication of photographs.

The most notable case was when topless pictures of Kate appeared in a French magazine in September 2012 taken on their holiday to a Provence Chateaux.

The couple launched legal proceedings and issued a statement saying: “They have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and unjustifiable manner.

“This is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the paparazzi during Diana’s life and the more upsetting to the duke and duchess for being so."

They were also snapped on their honeymoon in the Seychelles and on their "babymoon" to Mustique when Kate was pregnant with George.

Clarence House refused to officially comment on the publication of the photographs.

A source said the household would ask publications to use their discretion when it came to using the pictures.
