Madoka to hold meeting with port workers today

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Chairman Marsden Madoka will today address port workers at Bandari College.

Major Madoka met the newly appointed managers including acting Managing Director Catherine Mturi Wairi.

Reports indicate the meeting, which ended at around 5.30pm, discussed the future of the industrial relations between the workers and incoming management.

According to a notice signed by Human Resource and Administrative General Manager Amani Komora and released yesterday evening, the workers are supposed to assemble at Bandari College at 3pm.

“Colleagues, the Chairman of the Board, Major (Rtd.) Hon. Marsden Madoka, EGH, K.St. J, will address staff at the Bandari College Auditorium tomorrow Friday, 12th February 2016 at 3 pm. All staff are advised to attend with the exception of those on essential duties and manning sensitive areas,” said the notice signed by Mr Komora.

Madoka who has spearheaded the changes at the port which saw the removal of top managers, yesterday chaired the first board meeting at the corporation’s headquarters in Kipevu since the sweeping changes, which saw five top managers given marching orders, were made.

The meeting deliberated several issues including the way forward at the port following a new directive that high-value goods be cleared at the port and not in the container freight stations.

HIGH PRODUCTIVITY

The meeting also discussed the workers’ relationship with the management so that there could be high productivity in the working places.

The workers are said to have slaughtered a goat on Tuesday to celebrate the removal the managers.

Sources at the port told The Standard that Madoka will today also address the newly appointed managers on the way forward.

“We are expecting the chairman to address the workers today following new changes at the port,” said the source.

Ms Mturi, the acting managing director attended the first board of directors meeting. The General Manager Legal and Board Affairs, Addraya Dena, also recorded the board’s meeting minutes for the first time.
