Obey court orders and resume duty, Francis Atwoli tells teachers

Central Organisation of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli

KAKAMEGA: The Central Organisation of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli Sunday said the recent court ruling that suspended the teachers' strike for 90 days was fair and begged tutors not to defy the order.

At the same time, eight MPs from Western region have vowed to push for teachers' pay when the National Assembly resumes tomorrow.

Mr Atwoli faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for travelling to New York, USA, before solving many issues affecting the country.

"It means the President is not a serious person. Solve your problems first before going away. Some of us are willing to give free advice," said Atwoli.

And MPs led by Alfred Agoi (Sabatia) said there were many ways the Government could find money to pay teachers.

MPs Wilbur Ottichilo (Emuhaya), Yusuf Chanzu (Vihiga), Benard Shinali (Ikolomani), Rapahel Otaalo (Lurambi), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo) and EALA MP Nancy Abisai vowed to support the push for teachers' pay.

Mr Ottichilo, who is a member of the Education committee in Parliament, said that they were ready to pay teachers by whichever means.
