UK: We will help you recover from miraa ban

Meru, Kenya: The United Kingdom is funding a study to identify additional cash crop options for farmers in Meru County currently growing miraa, a senior official has said.

Addressing a miraa crop diversification study for miraa zones validation forum in Meru town, British High Commission Political Advisor Ben Agina said: "We want to work closely with the Government Taskforce on Miraa within the Ministry of Agriculture to mitigate the impact the ban has cost the people of Meru County."

He said the UK government is working directly with smallholders to provide better access to business finance and improve farming techniques.
