AP Officer attached to CID Shoots Himself in Love Triangle

A 29-year-old Administration Police officer attached to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Kayole shot himself dead at Nyayo Estate on Monday evening in what turns out to be a love triangle.

According to police reports, the officer quarreled with his girlfriend before threatening to shoot her and her children.

Embakasi DCIO Peter Kimulwa said the deceased left a suicide note pointing his blame to a lady living in Nyayo Estate Embakasi, after their relationship went sour.

"According to information that we have, the officer was in a relationship but on Monday evening, his girlfriend found him in a local bar in the company of another lady. A quarrel ensued and the officer threatened to kill her and her children," Kimulwa said.

He added that the deceased walked by foot to the woman's house which was a stone throw away and fired in the air. When security guards confronted him at the gate to the estate he shot at the air and gained his entry when the security guards scampered for safety.

In the suicide note seen by The Standard, the deceased indicated that he was ready to die because he loved his girlfriend who took his life for granted.

"This is to let everyone know that I have died because of her. I am ready to die because I loved her but she took my life for granted. I am forever gone but I am still around watching her suffer," read a section of the note.

The DCIO said the officer who was on duty on Monday is reported to have excused himself and requested his colleague to stand in for him after he said he was going to see a sick person. He did not surrender his firearm.

Reliable sources who spoke with The Standard on condition of anonymity claimed the girlfriend, a business lady and a mother of two, separated with the father of her children before meeting the Administration Police officer.

According to Felista Olewe, a house help in the woman's house, the officer always paid a visit but he had not visited for a week prior to the incident.

She said, "The officer has been coming to this house but he did not step here the whole of last week. On Monday at 5p.m., the owner of the house called and informed me to lock the door and also lock myself with the children in the bedroom. Shortly, the officer arrived and ordered me to open the door shouting that he was on a mission to kill all of us. I defied his order but he started firing indiscriminately through the door. I am traumatised and I did not sleep the whole night."

Kimulwa said the officer shot himself when police officers from Embakasi arrived at the scene. A Taurus gun, eight used cartridges, one live ammunition three bullet heads, his phone and wallet were recovered from the scene.

"The officer had just finished his degree in Security Management at Kenyatta University and was to graduate in November this year. We have opened an inquest file to determine the surrounding issues which led to the officer's death," added Kimulwa.

He said the gun will be taken to ballistics experts at CID headquarters for analysis. His body was taken to Chiromo mortuary.
