NAIROBI: Kenya will host the 9th annual Forum of African First Ladies against Breast, Cervical and Prostate Cancer (SCAA) in July.

The conference that runs from July 19 to July 22 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will be the biggest yet with representation expected from over 30 African first ladies and government delegations.

The conference, themed:'Investing to save lives: The Role of Public Private Sector Partnerships', will be held as a collaborative initiative by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, Princess Nikky Breast & Cervical Cancer Foundation and other key stakeholders.

The SCAA conference aims at mobilising individuals, families and communities to embrace healthier lifestyles with targeted advocacy to guarantee political goodwill for adequate human, technical and financial resources to achieve universal access to essential medicines and technologies for screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and palliation for cancers in Africa.

It will also present an opportunity for cancer screening and counselling supported by the Aga Khan University hospital in Nairobi prior to the conference at KICC.

The public is invited to participate in the screening considering that 80 per cent of cancers are unfortunately diagnosed when in an advanced stages when treatment is difficult, expensive and with poor outcomes.

Over 70 per cent of all cancer deaths occur in low and middle income countries.
