Rasanga fires three executive officers

Kisumu; Kenya: Governor Cornel Rasanga has fired three executive officers over allegations of incompetency and non-performance.

The dismissed officers are Eng Bernard Arum (Trade), Christine Oyuu (Environment) and Francis Ngesa (Roads).

The officers, who had recently been reshuffled and were to be re-vetted before being confirmed to their new dockets, went to court to stop the county government from exposing them to the process afresh.

Mr Rasanga then ordered County Secretary Kepha Marube to write dismissal letters to the three executive officials including Chief of Staff Aloyce Obare who he claimed "is doing a disservice to the county".

During last month's Okoa Kenya campaign launch, Rasanga told the three executives to mend their ways and work for the people.

"Some executive officers have been using county vehicles to run their personal errands. Complaints have reached my office that official cars are spotted outside drinking dens during working hours and in some offices one will only find hanging coats. Such officers cannot be pardoned since they will bring my government down, "he said.

NON-PERFORMANCE

The three executives had allegedly been given a deadline within which to improve their output but they failed prompting the governor to sack them.

Some county assembly members led by Majority Leader Edwin Otieno, said Mr Arum and Ms Oyuu were fired because they had proven incapable of managing their dockets in line with set performance targets.

Education Committee Chairperson, Lorna Achieng said they have been pushing for Oyuu's removal and are relieved to see her go.
