Starbucks has joined the real ale trend by brewing a coffee that tastes like beer. The non-alcoholic drink, named the Dark Barrel Latte, features espresso, dark caramel, chocolaty stout and is topped with whipped cream. It's being piloted at limited stores in the US, where several customers have likened the seasonal offering to the iconic Irish stout, Guinness. And if it proves to be a hit, it could be sold in UK stores in the future. Starbucks says: "Inspired by the rise of craft beers, Dark Barrel brings together savoury toasty malt and chocolaty tastes topped with sweet dark caramel drizzle. "This sophisticated combination offers a delicious complexity that builds with every sip." The beverage, which comes in frappucino form, has so far attracted a mixed reaction among coffee lovers. Peoples Coffee NZ tweeted: "'Dark Barrel Latte' i.e. Starbucks' beer tasting coffee. Two rights make a wrong." While LipstickNLager posted: "Just take my money! @Starbucks is testing out a latte that tastes like beer."
