Mudavadi fires UDF chairman Hassan Osman

NAIROBI, KENYA: Former Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has now kicked out nominated MP Hassan Osman from the helm of the United Democratic Front (UDF) party.

Mudavadi Wednesday appointed Kassim Sawa to replace Osman. The latter has protested a move to rebrand the party into Amani National Congress.

The UDF leader chaired a party meeting attended by nine of its MPs that resolved to fire Osman and proceed with the rebranding.

UDF has also threatened to start a disciplinary process that will lead to the removal of Osman, who is the only nominated UDF MP after they accused him of sabotaging NEC decisions.

In a quick rejoinder, Osman accused Mudavadi and other officials of trying to take over the party through unorthodox means.

Deputy party leader Jeremiah Kioni, who earlier read a statement at the party headquarters, maintained they had informed the Registrar of Political Parties of the plan to reconstitute the NEC ahead of the 2017 polls.
