Shopkeepers ordered to veil mannequins

MOSUL, IRAQ: Shopkeepers in the Iraqi city of Mosul have been instructed to cover the faces of mannequins used to display clothes in their shops.

A report in the Middle Eastern news website Al Arabiya reported Tuesday that the order was issued by The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) months after seizing control of Iraq’s second largest city.

According to Al Arabiya’s English website the shop owners said they had been ordered to cover the faces of both male and female mannequins by the jihadist militant group operating in Iraq and Syria.

The shopkeepers reportedly said the directive was to comply with Shariah law that forbid statues or artwork depicting the human form.
