Scores injured after train derails in Nairobi's Kibera slum

Nairobi, Kenya: A cargo train has derailed in Nairobi’s Kibera slums crashing several structures near the railway line. The train was headed for Kampala in Uganda.

According to St John Ambulance and police, scores of people have been wounded and others trapped inside in the Sunday morning accident and rescue efforts are under way.

Eight have been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.

Police had earlier reported residents were siphoning fuel from the ill-fated train.
