Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale faults Uhuru on Uwezo fund

KAKAMEGA, KENYA: Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has faulted government for giving out Uwezo fund as a loan.

The fund should instead be converted into a grant to enable the youth and women operate business without pressure of repaying the money.

Speaking at Shinyalu Constituency, Khalwale said that the Uwezo fund was meant for presidential run off and it should be given free of charge because if it could have been used as intended, it could not have been returned.

“The money was meant for presidential run off but the race was completed in round one. If the money could have been used, as planned, will it have been returned to the government? This money should be given as grants and not loans. Let the youth concentrate on business and not worry about repaying the money,” he said.

He told President Uhuru that during his election campaigns, he promised Kenyans that if election will be concluded in round one; money meant for presidential re-run will be given to the youth.

“During campaigns the president said that if he wins in round one, the money meant for presidential re-run will be given to the youth. The elections were concluded in round one, the money is there why is it being disbursed as loans again?” he posed.

Khalwale who was accompanied by the area MP Silvers Lisamula urged the youth and women to apply for the money and start business that will improve their lives

He urged them to come up with good business plans to enable them access the maximum amount given as it was the only way they can get employment and improve their livelihood.

“This money is yours. Form groups, come up with the best business ideas and apply for this loan. This is the only easy way that you can start a business and earn income. We want the money disbursed in this county to be borrowed and used. I urge you to apply for this loan,’ he said

The Senator further cautioned the residents that they should apply for the funds to make sure that the money is not returned to the treasury due to lack of application. He said that cases of CDF money being returned to the treasury should not arise with Uwezo fund.
