Matatu operators warned against strike

By Standard Reporter

Nairobi, Kenya: Traffic Commandant Samuel Kimaru has dismissed the planned strike by matatu operators countrywide over the ongoing crackdown by traffic police officers.

Kimaru stood his ground and vowed that the crackdown would go on until there is sanity on the roads. He said the threats would not deter them from enforcing the law and order and bringing sanity to the country’s roads.

He admitted that the operators had the freedom of expression but was quick to warn them that police would act if the operators broke the law.

Kimaru defended his officers against allegations of harassing matatu operators saying the police were acting within the law.
