Mutula Kilonzo laid to rest

Makueni, Kenya: The late Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo has been laid to rest. Mutula was buried at his ancestral home in Mbooni.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was among leaders present at the funeral service.

During the service, the late Mutula’s children, Kethi Kilonzo and Mutula Kilonzo Junior read his eulogy and his wife Cyrose Nduku gave a heartwarming account of her life with him.

The late Mutula grandchildren also eulogized him saying he was a loving, caring and honest grandfather.

Kethi’s son, Mumo Mutula moved the crowd when he described the kind of a person the late Makueni Senator was and promised to emulate him.

“Grandfather, I will always retain your position and raise it higher and higher for the rest of my life, “said master Mumo.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said the late Mutula was a principled man.

He remembered they built Kanu and they later served in the opposition with him.

“I was Kanu leader and we selected Mutula as we needed a sharp mind, he because our shadow Attorney General,” he said.

He was a patriot not driven by partisan interest but what was of national interest.

“What we have seen from children to grandchildren, Mutula lives on,”

To Kethi’s son who eulogized his grandfather he said “You will be one day the Mutula Kilonzo you are carrying in your heart today.”

President Daniel Moi did not attend funeral but sent his condolence message through Gideon Moi.

Moi said he was saddened when he learnt of Mutula’s passing.

“I selected Mutula as my lawyer because of his sharp mind,” the Former President said about his once personal lawyer.

He prayed for God to give the family strength.

On his part, Gideon said Mutula is a family friend and told the family to count on his support.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga also eulogized Mutula and remembered the times they spent during campaigns.

“We came here and he showed me where he was born, he told me he had encouraged people to plant trees so that it rains so that they avoid relying on relief food,” he said.

Former President Mwai Kibaki said the late Mutula was a person who will be remembered for a long time.

He asked Kenyans to learn from his actions and uphold his values.
