Nairobi, Kenya: The Cabinet has ordered the Internal Security Ministry to crackdown on criminal gangs, cattle rustlers and poachers posing threats to the national security.

The cabinet meeting chaired by President Kibaki on Thursday was geared towards ensuring adequate security arrangements before, during and after March 4 General elections.

The Cabinet also formed a sub-committee to study the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) report in a bid to control further escalation of the bill.

‘’Measures announced by SRC are not adequate and more steps should be taken to further reduce the wage bill’’, Cabinet noted.

Politicians were also urged to avoid emotive and sensational utterances that are inflammatory, abusive and pitting
communities or people against each other in their campaign trails.

In the wake of increased killings of elephants and rhinos by poachers, Forestry and Wildlife Ministry was ordered to flush out all herders from the national parks.

Among other measures to curb the poaching menace is the directive to deploy a multi-agency specialised security team
in all parks.
