IEBC gives Mudavadi, Kiyiapi nod to contest

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on Tuesday cleared Amani presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi and Restore and Build Kenya flag bearer James Ole Kiyiapi to contest for presidency.

Mudavadi was cleared by IEBC chairman Issack Hassan at KICC. The Deputy Prime Minister was accompanied by his running mate former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, Eugene Wamalwa of Ford Kenya and Kanu secretary general Nick Salat.

After being issued with the certificate Mudavadi exuded confidence of winning the March 4 general elections and called for peaceful campaigns.

“I appeal to our supporters to disengage from any activity that would jeopardize the democratic process ahead of the forthcoming general elections,” he said.

Kiyiapi who was accompanied by his running mate Winnie Kaburu Kinyua was also cleared and awarded the official nomination certificate.

The former Education PS took the chance to dismiss the recent opinion polls saying they were false.

He said the polls were polarizing Kenyans as they were showing the contest would be a two-man race.

Earlier, IEBC cleared Nark-Kenya presidential candidate Martha Karua and Eagle alliance flag bearer Peter Kenneth. Read story here..
