Nairobi, Kenya: Gangsters posing as Good Samaritan during the matatu strike kidnapped two women before killing them and dumping their bodies along Thika Road.

Police said one of the deceased is a practicing lawyer while the second one works with the City Council of Nairobi.

The women went missing since Monday and their bodies were discovered by the roadside by passersby who alerted police. The bodies were later taken to the Thika mortuary.

Initially, the women had called their kin saying they had been kidnapped before the matter was reported to police. The kidnappers had also started to demand ransom.

Police said the women were kidnapped from Kasarani area in Nairobi after hiking a ride to the city centre.

The women fell into the trap of kidnappers who had posed as Good Samaritan who wanted to help stranded motorists to the city centre.

Many commuters relied on free rides to their destinations when matatu operators boycotted roads to protest the new traffic laws.

Kasarani OCPD Augustine Nthumbi said they were investigating the case of the missing women until when they were informed the bodies had been found.

“We are yet to know what transpired to necessitate this but a ransom had been demanded. Our officers are investigating and we believe we will get those behind the murder,” said Nthumbi.

Cases of kidnapping have been low in the city in the past months as a result of police operations. Several suspects have been arrested and charged in court over the incidents.
