In a small village of Kajulu, Kisumu County, a 42-year-old married woman was caught pants down with a 26-year-old primary school teacher.

The woman who is a mother of two had been romping with the young man who is the age of his first born son. The steamy clandestine affair had been under wraps for a long time as she operated her salon.  Although married for 20 years to Juma, a fisherman, Adhiambo or Mama Boi, as she was fondly referred, cut an image of a faithful wife running a prestigious salon in town.

Home fishing

As Juma was busy casting his nets in the hyacinth infested waters of Lake Victoria on chilly nights, his wife was busy entertaining a younger man. The lovers choice of location was the warm matrimonial bed. After all, the husband was busy catching fish the whole night.

They cohabited without raising eyebrows for a long time, but her dalliance with the teacher  eventually raised eyebrows and tongues started wagging. The hushed rumours spread like bushfire. The ‘news’ eventually reached the husband but the bearer — a childhood pal — was grabbed by the collar for spreading malicious rumours.

Neighbours heard of the incident and turned a blind eye on the lovers. This gave the wife vigour and boldness, taking advantage of the husband’s ignorance to parade her catch in broad daylight. They could hug and hold hands in public. The young man could even dress in her husband’s outfits.

Disgusted by the ‘news’, her sons avoided visiting their home. They were embarrassed as friends mocked them over the affair. But their father was not buying any of that and he quickly disowned them, telling them to focus on their own lives. This made the lovers grow bolder as careless spending to please the young man became the order of the day.

Emblezzing funds

The cougar decided to sell her salon plus its land while the husband continued to turn a blind eye. To please the younger man, the love-struck cougar embezzled funds from her chama.

Soon, complains reached the area sub-chief who duly summoned the husband. The husband’s eyes were finally opened and he started seeing a change in his wife who had changed her wardrobe and had stocked figure hugging clothes. She also wore make-up and other niceties, and her once warm embrace to him was gone.

Armed with this knowledge, the husband laid a trap for his wife as advised by the elders. He told the wife that he was going for a long fishing expedition that would take days or even a week.  The husband then hid in a nearby home.

We are far from a working nation

The other day, I encountered an incident that really disturbed my mind. I had a one-hour break and ducked out of the office, ostensibly to kill three birds with one stone; eating lunch, meeting with a friend and doing a bank transaction.
