Higher Education minister Margaret Kamar has ordered the United States International University of Africa (USIU) to submit a report on the state of security in the institution.

Prof Kamar said her ministry was concerned with the institution’s in security after a student died following an alleged abduction by fellow students.

“I have ordered USIU to give me a report on the state of their security immediately,” she told Parliamentary Education Committee on Thursday.

Committee Chairman and Mosop MP David Koech had asked the minister to explain what measures they have taken to ensure students’ safety in the institution.

A 24-year-old student at the university was found murdered a week after she was kidnapped outside the campus compound. The family found the body of Sarah Aruwa at the City Mortuary seven days after she was taken captive.

Aruwa was a fourth year International Relations student. Her parents said the kidnappers had demanded some Sh100,000 ransom.
