Man in custody for plotting to assassinate Prince Charles

UK:   A ginger-haired alleged extremist wanted to assassinate Prince Charles with a sniper rifle so Prince Harry could become king, a court has heard.

Mark Colborne, 37, wrote in his diary that he wanted to 'take out' the heir to the throne, a jury was told.

He added: "Wouldn't it be great to have a military silent rifle, take up a good stealth position and put a bullet in Charles' head.

"I would sacrifice my life for that one shot.

"Kill Charles and Prince Harry becomes king... Kill the tyrants and become free from tyrannical future rule."

Colborne is on trial at the Old Bailey accused of plotting a terrorist attack.

Prosecutor Annabel Darlow QC told a jury how in a diary entry for May 2012, Colborne wrote: "If I had the right weapon, military grade sniper rifle, I would take out Prince Charles and a few others for the sake of the Aryan people.

"The first chance I get with a rifle is to murder tyrannical Prince Charles."

Ms Darlow said Colborne felt "belittled by society" because of his ginger hair and white skin and compared himself to "lone wolf" terrorists Anders Breivik and Timothy McVeigh.

He stockpiled equipment and the ingredients for making cyanide in his bedroom at the home he shared with his mother in Southampton, jurors heard.

Colborne, who suffers from agoraphobia, wrote in his notebook about his hatred for non-Aryans, blacks and black-haired Caucasians.

In one entry dated 20 May 2012 he said: "I want to perform strategic coordinated different attacks on the systems tyrants and tyrants in and around the septic island."

The following year he wrote about finding information about building "nerve gases which are as deadly as small-yield nukes."

Colborne added: "I'm stuck between committing mass destruction using a weapon of mass destruction and just targeting tyrants.

"I have often wanted to smear on toxin on their door handles that in time seeps through their skin and kills them but doing it to more than one neighbour would arouse suspicion."

He also referred to attacking a 'n****r' in a park and doing "another Stephen Lawrence".

Colborne's handwritten notes included the boast: "I will put a major dent in England one that is felt around the world, if for some reason I cannot perform a major operation then I will still opt for low level attacks," jurors were told.

His plans were foiled when his half-brother Kevin found his box of materials and tipped off police in June last year.

Detectives found spray bottles which could be used to squirt cyanide and a chemical that helped poisons penetrate through the skin, it is claimed.

Prosecutor Annabel Darlow QC has told the jury: "He clearly had experienced a troubled childhood and perceived himself as marginalised and belittled by society because he was a white, ginger-haired male."

Colborne, of Sholing, Southampton, denies preparing terrorist acts on or before 2 July 2014.

The trial continues.
