Thika Queens are the 2021 Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League champions.

Former Kenyan international Essie Akida scored a brace to inspire Thika Queens to an impressive 3-0 win over Gaspo Women in an entertaining playoff final played at Nakuru Agriculture Showgrounds on Sunday.

The win saw Benta Achieng’s charges end their five-year drought as they bagged their second Premier League title since they were last crowned victors in 2016.

Despite ending Vihiga Queens impressive four-year dominance, Gaspo, who finished second in Zone A with 31 points, could not match Thika Queens’s powerhouse as Rachel Muema gave the Thika based side a narrow 1-0 first-half lead after netting in the 38th minute.

In the final half, Akida bagged her brace in the 57th and 65th minutes to seal the title and condemn Gaspo to a second consecutive final loss after previously losing to former champions Vihiga Queens in the 2019 playoff finals.
