Governor Barasa sets stage for formation of Malava municipal board

Plans to establish the Malava Municipal Board is at an advanced stage, Governor Fernandes Barasa has announced.

This follows the nomination of the chairperson and members of the Kakamega County Public Service Board.

Speaking at a public forum in Malava, Governor Barasa said that once the nominees are approved by the County Assembly, his administration will immediately advertise vacancies for membership on the municipal board.

“Now that we have nominated the chairperson and members of the County Public Service Board, once they are approved, we will proceed to advertise the vacancies for the Malava Municipal Board,” he said.

Barasa said the strategic role of the municipal board is enhancing urban development, streamlining service delivery, and empowering local communities. 

He urged qualified professionals from Malava and neighboring areas to prepare to apply for the positions.

“We want to ensure that Malava receives the development it deserves. I know we have professionals here who can steer the municipality to greater heights. This is an opportunity for our people to take charge and uplift the lives of our community,” said the governor.

He added that the formation of the municipal board is part of his broader commitment to decentralizing development and strengthening local governance structures across Kakamega County.

Barasa emphasised that the Malava Municipal Board will be instrumental in managing urban growth, boosting infrastructure, promoting investment, and improving service delivery in the town. 

“Once operational, the board is expected to help transform Malava into a key hub for sustainable development and economic activity  in the region,’’ he said.

He said the board will also work closely with relevant county departments and national government agencies to ensure that local urban projects are aligned with both county and national development goals.

“We are laying the groundwork for long-term growth. Through collaboration and local leadership, Malava can realize its full potential as a vibrant urban center,” noted Barasa.
