Hospital receives Sh3.5m for theatre equipment

Kakamega, Kenya: Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has donated Sh2.5 million to Kakamega County General Hospital to purchase theatre equipment.

IRA also donated a surgical table worth Sh1 million to boost surgery at the hospital.

The hospital's main theatre currently lacks suitable equipment to operate efficiently, leading to delays in surgery. The theatre uses two surgical tables instead of the required four.

Speaking after handing over equipment and cheque to the hospital administration, Edward Opiayo, IRA representative said the authority donated the equipment to improve surgical services in the county, and also enable the hospital to handle emergencies more efficiently.

BUSY HOSPITAL

"We decided to support this hospital because it is the largest in the county. It handles most of the emergencies and referrals and there is need to fully equip it with modern facilities," said Mr Opiayo.

The Director of Health Dr Brenda Makokha lauded IRA for helping the hospital realise its objectives towards improved healthcare.

"This will boost surgical services as more people from within and outside will be able to access better services," said Dr Makokha.
