Shock as boy’s body found with missing parts

Vihiga, Kenya: Grief engulfed Charogohe village, Emanda Sub-location, Vihiga, after the body of a five-year-old boy was found in a bush with his tongue, nose and private parts missing.

Members of the public who spoke to The Standard said the child had been playing with others when a woman called him and gave her some money to go and purchase mandazi and then disappeared never to be seen again.

After the child had been missing for almost eight hours from 11am, residents launched a manhunt for him only to find body tucked in the bushes near a stream.

“The grandmother had gone to the posho mill and left the child at home alone. When she came back, the child was missing. After many hours of waiting, she asked neighbours to help locate him, only to find him dead,” the boy’s grandfather, Bernard Mangaji said.

Mzee Mangaji said many parts of the boy’s body were missing and it seemed that he had been struck on the head with a blunt object.

He said some children reported that they saw a woman and a smartly dressed man washing hands in a nearby stream where the boy was found, but they didn’t bother to report the matter as they deemed them innocent.  Charogohe Assistant Chief Edward Keya asked the residents to be on high alert as they bordered Majengo town, which has been very insecure in the recent past.

He said the landlords in the town were supposed to take the details of their tenants to make sure that people do not commit criminal activities and go scot-free.

“We have so many people in this town whose details cannot be traced and thus open up an avenue for an easier route to committing criminal activities,” Mr Keya said.

The child’s body was moved to Vihiga Hospital mortuary, pending post-mortem.

Elsewhere, three brothers from Itegero sub-location, Sabatia constituency engaged each other in a fight over a parcel of land they inherited from their father, where one of them was injured after being cut with a panga.

Sabatia district Administration Police Commandant Patrick Wambua said two of the brothers; Joseph Vwivuya and Jonah Lukalo, attacked their brother, Kenneth Kisia and his wife. They injured Mr Kisia’s wife prompting Kisia to snatch the panga and cut both of them.
