Police officer kills wife, daughter and shoots self

A regular police officer ran berserk killing his daughter and critically injuring his wife before turning the gun on himself in a bizarre morning incident at Kakamega Police line.

The wife perished moments after being admitted at Kakamega Provincial Hospital in critical condition.

Kakamega Central OCPD Charles Kinyua said the officer whom he declined to name because he had not contacted a next of kin, used an AK 47 rifle that he had just retrieved from the armoury and snuffed out his life and that of his 23 year old daughter.

“It is an unfortunate happening that has shocked everyone, the officer had just taken his gun from the armoury ready to head to a school he had been assigned to, to supervise the on-going national examinations” explained Kinyua.

Residents said the late daughter aged 23 was preparing tea in the morning when her father entered in the house and without saying anything shot at her chest before moving to his wife, 41, who was in the next house and shot her on the thigh.

The officer died instantly while the daughter perished at Kakamega Provincial Hospital.

“We just heard gun shots and when we tried to run towards his house we heard another one that we later established was the last that he directed to his head” noted Anthony Shiveka, a neighbour.

According to another neighbour who sought anonymity, the family was embroiled in family disagreements over the last few days and this could have fuelled the happening.

The bodies of the deceased lay at Kakamega Provincial mortuary as investigations got underway.

Kinyua however says that it will be difficult to get to the bottom of the issue, since the wife would have given them details.
