Kenyans for Kenya beats target

150 metric tonnes of enriched maize and bean flour is tonight heading out to help save the lives of Kenyans hardest hit by drought, courtesy of the 'Kenyans for Kenya' initiative. This is the second consignment of relief food sent out by the private sector initiative which realized its half a billion shillings target just eight days after it began. Despite this and efforts by donors and the government, the situation remains dire for many Kenyans. Apart from the direct threats of malnutrition and disease, the food crisis is also contributing to insecurity in northern kenya. KTN has learned that the number of Kenyans killed in yesterday's raid in Todonyang area of Turkana has risen to 13. Kenyan police have asked for help from their Ethiopian counterparts to apprehend the Merille raiders, who attacked the Turkana and took away livestock in what is seen as a fight for resources driven by the biting drought.
