Cabinet approves import of GMO

It is now official: Kenya will import genetically modified grain to help deal with the current food crisis. This follows a cabinet resolution endorsing the importation but under strict conditions. Only millers will be allowed to import gm maize and all the maize imported must be used to produce flour. The flour will then be required to be clearly labeled before it is sold to consumers. This came as the cabinet approved 9 billion shillings in spending on drought relief programmes.
