Kenya Commercial Bank women’s volleyball coach Vernon Khayinga believes his new signings have what it takes to propel the team to success in the upcoming Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) League season.

The bankers, who finished third in last year’s play-offs after beating Nairobi Water 3-1, have acquired the services of experienced trio of Sally Wanjala (setter), Elishiba Chepkemboi and Dorcas Chepleting (middle-blocker) from Kenya Prisons.

Others are Lugulu Girls’ sensation Joyce Njeri, Lucy Sokon’g and Sharleen Mayiwa.

The new recruits are expected to make their debuts against Mount Kenya University during next month’s (March 1-3) first leg of the season at Kamukunji Grounds, in Nyeri.

"We have been able to gauge the team in the last four weeks and I believe we are ready for the league. We are lucky to have acquired six good players who have catch up very fast with the team. It is my hope that they will help us this season,” said Khayinga.

“The morale in the team is motivating. All the players are mentally, physically and emotionally are ready to go and face any team.”

Commenting on their season opener tie against MKU, the Kenya U23 assistant coach said: “It will be a tough game against MKU, but we are well prepared and ready to meet them. We will handle every game as it comes, but we must win the first match in Nyeri. “

Meanwhile, Nairobi Water Women’s volleyball team have withdrawn from next month’s first leg league ties in Nyeri.
