Manager tips Prisons to dominate African volleyball for many years

Kenya Prisons success in CAVB African Women’s Clubs Championships is confirmation that they are still the best in the continent.

This is the opinion of Prisons team manager David Kilundo who predicted that the wardresses will rule Africa for many years to come.

Kilundo said: “Prisons team was written off after we lost against Pipeline in the National league play-off final but our come back is a confirmation that our players are the best in Africa.”

“Prisons players are young, talented and ambitious and I don’t see them being beaten in Africa in the near future,” he said after the final match at Moi International Sports Center on Saturday.

Prisons beat Pipeline in 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-16) in an epic final to win the continental diadem for the fourth time after recording victories in 2008, 2010 and 2011 editions.
The victory also handed Prisons the rights to represent Africa in the FIVB World Clubs Championships to be staged in Qatar in October.

Bagged awards
Besides, Prisons players bagged three out of six awards available following their exemplary show during the 10-day tournament at Moi International Sports Centre Nairobi on Saturday.
The award winners were: Captain Bracksides Agala who was named the best attacker, Jane Wacu best setter and upcoming Elizabeth Wanyama who was declared the best receiver.
Kilundo said: “The success of the players is a result of hard work, determination, commitment to the team, discipline and team work.”

The Prisons manager revealed that after losing to Pipeline in the league, the wardresses embarked on an intensive training programmed which was geared towards changing the team’s technical approach to the game.

Game changed
“After months of training our game has changed. The players are able to execute fast attacks and as well as block with precision,” he said.

Kilundo concurred with Coach David Lung’aho and Agala’s assertion that quality training is necessary for the team to make impact in forthcoming FIVB World Clubs Championships.
He said: “Prisons team technical bench will present a request to the authorities stating how we should prepare for the world show.”

“Kasarani is now open and we hope that we’ll get the opportunity to train at the indoor gymnasium,” he said.

Although Pipeline lost the final, Kilundo believes that they are one of the great teams in Africa.

“Pipeline is a great team. They showed a lot of determination but Prisons were much strong than them both in defense and attack.
