Why DP Ruto is a smiling man

Deputy President William Ruto who will be running for presidency come 2022 general elections is a happy man as he watches cracks deepen in the NASA coalition which had been a great threat to his political career lately before 'fault lines' emerged in the coalition.

The deputy President must be all smiles seeing the opposition parties making up the main opposition knocking on the doors of disintegration following the disunity which is bearing roots in the coalition at a faster rate especially after the swearing in of Raila Odinga as the people's president on January 30.

From missing the great event of Odinga's swearing-in by fellow co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula to Odinga meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta for peace talks without informing his fellow principals and then to dethroning of Wetangula as the Senate minority leader and installing Orengo who is in the same coalition.

All these combined together raise eyebrows on the unity of the coalition and these are the crack to talk about.

Should these cracks lead to a division of the opposition then this will be an open gate for the DP Ruto to proceed to power without having a hard time. Why? Because division in NASA will mean division of support and power from the opposition subscribers.

Being that Kenya is a tribal nation, division among the opposition principals Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula will mean each principal goes with his followers causing a huge division of support base that would have seen the opposition in unity be a headache for Ruto.

The DP will enjoy support from Uhuru Kenyatta (if at all he will keep his promises). This support will typically and overwhelmingly overdo that of either Mudavadi or Kalonzo should the opposition split which will, in turn, mean Ruto will floor this two and any other who would wish to join the race to the presidency.

The opposition should, therefore, be ready to understand that splitting will only mean declaring Ruto the president of the Republic of Kenya come 2022.
