Environment Kenya- why we all need to act up fast

Our country Kenya is among the many African countries on the verge of entire pollution. Air and water are needed for human survival. God provided these essentials for man to effectively use. The usage of our natural resources over the period has led to serious pollution problems that can be hazardous to our beautiful country.

Many industries have come up leading to rapid urbanization. There is an ever-increasing demand for petrol and diesel for running various means of transport and machinery. As a result, a heavy amount of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, sulphur-dioxide and many more gases are polluting the air. The major threat to humanity comes from the increased air pollution which can cause numerous diseases

The gasses are destroying the atmospheric balance. The poisonous gases, chemicals and dust released into the air fall back on earth as acid rain harming crops and life. This causes various harmful diseases.Rainwater is considered as the purest form of water. Water pollution in lakes, rivers, ponds and other water bodies is caused by surface water which carries a large amount of chemical discharge of industries and inorganic discharge of city sewage. Such impurities are a serious threat to the existence of citizen in our country.

Our country faces one more problem which is noise pollution. Loud horns during traffic chaos, screaming loudspeakers at different occasions and blasting exhaust pipes from noisy matatus that almost make one deaf are killing the peaceful silence. Use of regulating laws by the legislative arm of the government, abiding by proper traffic regulations and checking excessive use of public speaker systems can widely help in reducing noise pollution.

As a country, we should all strive as human beings to keep our environment safe for effective human living in various ways. It is a responsibility of each and every person to ensure that our environment is entirely safe from pollution.

Instead of driving everywhere you can walk for short distances. This will reduce air pollution and also make your body physically fit.Carpooling should also come in handy. For example, if four of your colleagues live in the same estate you can use one car instead of four cars.

Lastly, we should maintain the 3Rs rule to reduce reuse recycle.Plastic bottles and containers can be recycled as many times as possible. We should also focus on using more biodegradable materials that if deposited in the soil cannot cause much harm on the soil as they will decompose.
