Ulinzi Stars kicked out of the Confederations Cup

During the first leg of the first round of the Confederations Cup, Ulinzi suffered a 4-0 humbling defeat in the hands of the Egyptian side- Smouha in Alexandria, Egypt last week.

The local boys needed to win by five or more goals when they welcomed the Egyptians at Kenyatta stadium in Machakos on Saturday, 18.

Benjamin Nyangweso’s boys, who eliminated Libyan side Al-Hilal Benghazi in the preliminary round, failed to advance past Smouha.

Despite a 3-0 win, the Soldiers were bundled out of the completion after a 4-3 aggregate loss to the Egyptian side.

Samuel Onyango scored a double; in the eighth minute and in the half-hour mark respectively.

In spite of John Kago given his marching orders in the 55th minute, 10-man Ulinzi continued with the fight which definitely paid off thanks to Omar Mbongi’s strike in the 82nd minute.

Now that Tusker FC is already out of CAF Champions League, Kenyan clubs are now out of any international tournament.
