President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party is the most preferred political party in Governor Rutto’s county, according to a poll released on Thursday.
The Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) survey predicts that Jubilee party would get 71 percent of the votes while Chama Cha Mashinani was at second place with 15%.
Despite the fact that the opposition coalition, NASA, had landed in Bomet County earlier in the year, it will get only 6% of the votes. Both KANU and Maendelo Chap Chap had 1%. 4 percent did not feel close to any of the political parties.
Rutto likely to be re-elected
However, if the elections were called today, governor Rutto who quit Jubilee and form his own party, Chama Cha Mashinani, would retain his seat. The poll showed a likelihood of Rutto getting 44% of the votes while Sotik MP Joyce Laboso will garner 32% of the votes.
The survey presented NWCPC Chairman Dr. Julius Kones who is battling with Dr. Laboso for Jubilee party ticket as the third preferred candidate with 19%. Only 6% of the respondents were unsure on whom to cast their votes for.
TIFA hinted out that Sotik MP Dr.Laboso and former Konoin MP Dr.Kones will need to work harder to convince voters that they can be governor of the county.
The poll was conducted between 15th and 19th February 2017 where 660 respondents were sampled from households living in Bomet County. It has a margin error of +/-4 % with 95 percent confidence interval. The margin error is attributed to sampling.
The objective of the opinion poll was to assess the political party affiliation in Bomet county and also identify the most popular candidates for various seats.
