OPINION: Men ought to stop treating Covid-19 normally

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has finally put the reality into the limelight that most men are not adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines.

This was after the country reported 421 new cases on Thursday, 297 being male and 124 females.

Even after a study showed that men are more vulnerable to the virus than women, they seem to have thrown caution to the wind.

I really don’t get it. As infections continue to surge, the country is yet to be hit hard but seems that all these may be falling onto deaf ears.

Of course, it is not all men that are going against the rules, one rotten apple spoils the barrel.

Don’t people love their health? I tend to think the reason most Kenyan men are flaunting the rules is because they still rest their argument on the fact that nobody knows anyone who has been infected.

This is absurd! Do you want to see people dropping dead in the busy streets of Nairobi to come to terms with the seriousness of this menace? I have no words for you.

The government has been upbeat about controlling the spread of this virus ever since the first case was recorded in March and I can’t blame them.

They are doing a great job. It is you and I who are making the situation worse for them.

Just so you know, continuously being defiant against rules that have been put in place by the authority is actually a disorder.

A research done by Medical Express suggests that the ‘big five’ personality traits influence the way individuals deal with social distancing rules in life.

Well, I am not a psychologist but we need some serious soul searching before the virus treats us abnormally.
