Jay Z has called for politicians and lawmakers in America to prosecute the killers of George Floyd “to the fullest extent of the law.”
The 50-year-old musician, real name Shawn Carter, called Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz over the weekend to appeal to him to use all powers available to prosecute those who contributed to the death of Mr Floyd, who died last week aged 46 after a police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the chart-topping star who is married to singer Beyonce Knowles, 38, and is father to daughters Blue Ivy, eight, and two-year-old twins Rumi and Sir – shared details of his conversation with the Governor.
In his statement, Jay revealed he had helped expedite the George Floyd death case for the Minnesota Attorney General to take over.
He wrote: “After our very earnest conversation, thank you to Governor Walz for doing what's right and calling in Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over the George Floyd case.
"Earlier today, Governor Walz mentioned having a human conversation with me – a dad and a black man in pain.

“Yet, I am a human, a father and a black man in pain, and I am not the only one.
“Now I, along with an entire country in pain, call upon AG Ellison to do the right thing and prosecute all those responsible for the murder of George Floyd to the fullest extent of the law.”
Jay went on to suggest reform is needed across America after Mr Floyd became just the latest unarmed black American to have died at the hands of police.
He wrote: “This is just a first step. I am more determined to fight for justice than any fight my would-be oppressors may have.
"I prevail on every politician, prosecutor and officer in the country to have the courage to do what is right.
“Have the courage to look at us as humans, dads, brothers, sisters and mothers in pain and look at yourselves.”
Earlier, 56-year-old Governor Waltz shared details of his conversation with Jay Z.
Entertainment Tonight quote him saying: “I received a call last night – to understand how big this was – from JAY-Z. Not international performer, but dad, stressing to me that justice needs to be served.
"It was so incredibly human. It was a dad, and I think quite honestly a black man, whose visceral pain of this that he knew. His words summarized that justice needs to be served here.
"He knows the world is watching, and how Minnesota handles this is going to have an impact across the country. It's a positive sign that someone of a stature, that has a presence like that, is focused in the moment of what Minnesotans are focused on."

Protests have been held in cities across America after George Floyd died on Monday 25 May after police officer Derek Chauvin was filmed kneeling on his neck for almost nine minutes.
Four officers were fired from the Minneapolis Police Department in connection with the incident, while ex-officer Derek was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
Violence has erupted at the scene of many protests, with buildings set ablaze and stores looted.
Social media users have shared shocking videos and photos of looting, violence and the burning of buildings by some participants of the protests.
While other troubling footage has shown police in NYC ramming demonstrators with SUVs, and police in other cities violently clashing with protestors.
