Kagwe announces 123 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday, May 27 announced the highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day after 123 people tested positive.

This is after testing 3,077 samples bringing the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country to 1,471.

The CS also announced that three more people died in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 55.

Among the 123 new cases, Nairobi is leading with 85 cases and Mombasa has 24 cases among others.

Kagwe says the increase in number is due to public transport which is highly used in most areas, but encouraged Kenyans that there is hope.

“We have noticed that many have reverted back to the old ways to travel, disregarding social distancing rules, and not obeying masking guidelines. Please let me remind you of the need to protect yourself and others. You don’t know who you are sitting next to,” said the CS.

The CS said Mathare in Nairobi had the highest number of COVID-19 after 33 people tested positive in the last 24 hours and 14 people in Kibera.

Kenyans were also urged to volunteer themselves for testing so as to protect those around them. Kagwe says those who won’t be able to afford their bills will be allowed to leave hospital.
