No movement in and out of Eastleigh, Old Town effective today 7pm

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday announced the cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh and Old Town in Mombasa effective today, May 6, 2020 at 7pm.

This will continue for the next 15 days but residents of the said areas will be allowed to shop within.

No one will be allowed to move in and out of the areas and public transportation has also been banned.

This comes as Kenya recorded 47 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the national tally to 581.

32 of the new cases are from Mombasa, Nairobi has 11 cases, Busia 2, Kiambu 1 and Kwale 1.

Five new cases have been reported in Eastleigh while Old Town has recorded 18 new cases.

The CS noted that Eastleigh and Old Town are hotspots and the government was forced to announce the new measures to curb the spread of the virus.

Eateries, markets and restaurants in Eastleigh will also be shut down effective today at 7pm.

Kagwe also stated that eight people had been discharged, bringing the number of recoveries in the country to 180.

Unfortunately, two more people have died in Mombasa while at home.
