Moses Kuria on Coronavirus: I’m disappointed no one appealed to landlords to be more understanding

Gatundu South Member of parliament Moses Kuria on Wednesday March 18 said he was disappointed that no one has appealed to landlords on rent as the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country continue to rise.

The legislator took to his Facebook page to lament on the issue minutes after Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge issued a statement on the measures that will be applied to shield the economy from the pandemic.

“Very disappointed that CBK Governor has not deemed it fit to lower CBR or cut the CRR. Let’s hope the MPC is meeting this afternoon for the same.”

“Equally disappointed no one appealed to landlords to be more understanding and accommodating in these extraordinary times. Anyway God is mightier that Corona Virus,” said Moses Kuria.

Speaking on Wednesday, the CBK Governor stated that banks have agreed to extend the payment period for personal loans.

“The banks will seek to provide relief to borrowers on their personal loans. 28% of loans are personal loans.”

“To provide relief on personal loans, banks will review requests from borrowers for extension of their loan for a period of up to one year. To initiate this process, borrowers should contact their respective banks,” read one of the measures by CBK.

In addition, Governor Njoroge added that all the money that will be coming outside banks will be quarantined for a week in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

"We do not want this crisis to become a financial crisis. All cash that will be coming out of banks will be quarantined for one-week," he stated.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe also confirmed that there were three new cases of coronavirus in the country, bringing the total number to seven.
