Kitale court sentences priest to five years for attempted sexual assault of altar girl

A Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. Duncan Mtai based in a Kitale court has handed a religious leader aged 45, imprisonment of five years.

According to a report by Nation, Bernard Magina was found guilty of sexually trying to molest one of the altar girls.

"I think that the prosecution has proved their case against the accused beyond any reasonable doubts. I, therefore, convict him to five years imprisonment, with 14 days right of appeal," ruled Hon. Mtai.

The accused reportedly attempted defilement over the minor in September 2018 at Kapsaina Trade Centre, Trans Nzoia county.

The court got to know how Fr. Magina attempted to defile the minor in his car. On that fateful day, the minor claimed how the man of God told her to visit the church evening at 6 p.m.

It's only after the girl overstayed when her mother left in her search. "I then sent her siblings to go look for her in vain that is when I went to look for her at the church only to find her inside the priest vehicle that was parked outside the family," the court heard from the girl's mother.

In attempts to cleanse himself, Fr. Bernard Magina told the court how the minor stormed his car, knocking the window forcing him to roll it down for her.
