Facebook unveils new logo

Facebook’s Chief Marketing Officer Antonio Lucio this week announced that the company was changing its logo.

It is important to note that there is Facebook the social networking service and Facebook the corporate parent that owns WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.

It is a bit confusing but simply put, the Facebook app will retain its blue logo but the parent company will have a new logo.

According to Lucio, the move is aimed at distinguishing the two and is designed for clarity.

“Today, we’re updating our company branding to be clearer about the products that come from Facebook.

“We’re introducing a new company logo and further distinguishing the Facebook company from the Facebook app, which will keep its own branding,” he said.

Adding: “The new branding was designed for clarity, and uses custom typography and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and app.”

The logo, which features the word Facebook in all capital letters in a new font, alternates between blue, green and hues of purple, red and orange -- all colors that represent its other brands.

(Blue for Facebook, green for WhatsApp and purple, red and orange for Instagram.)
