Sonko shares video of handcart pusher who slipped at Likoni channel

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday shared a video of a handcart pusher who plunged into the water after slipping at the Likoni channel.

In the undated video, a man is seen trying to swim to safety as members of the public look on.

It is alleged that he had been contracted by a businesswoman to transport goods from the mainland but slipped just as the ferry was leaving.

Bystanders quickly swim towards him and pull him to safety.

Sadly, a woman in the video is heard counting her losses saying the cart was full of coconuts and pawpaws and they might go bad.

“Mombasa people be careful and take care of yourselves,” said Sonko.

This comes just days after a car sunk at the Likoni channel after slipping off the ramp while the ferry was moving.

The occupants of the car (a woman and her daughter) are yet to be found.

On Tuesday, the Kenya Ferry Services stated that the wreckage might be 60m below the water surface and this has affected the rescue operations.
