Mariga speaks after IEBC greenlight

McDonald Mariga was on Monday morning cleared by the IEBC to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat.

IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati stated that Mariga is a registered voter and should be allowed to contest for the seat.

Speaking shortly after the ruling, Mariga said that justice has been served and thanked the IEBC for handling the matter professionally.

He also reacted to those who have been out to tarnish his name saying he is a man of few words and has forgiven them.

“I would like to thank the IEBC for a good job. A lot has been said about me but I do not like holding grudges.

“I forgive all those who said nasty things about me. It is time go to the people of Kibra and have a conversation with them.

“They are the ones who will decide,” he remarked.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, on his part, said justice has been done and promised that Jubilee Party is firmly behind the former Harambee Stars midfielder.

On Twitter, he likened Mariga’s situation to a goal that had been ruled out by the referee only for VAR to overrule the decision.

“On the Mariga’s goal earlier ruled out for offside, the referee after detailed analysis of the VAR’s register has concluded that it was a perfect goal.

“Play resumes with the opponents destabilized, Mariga’s team reenergized &their fans are ecstatic. Game on…May the best team win!” said Murkomen.
