Kakamega businessman James Lukhobo Ingosi alias Doctor has been killed.

Yesterday locals found the body of the businessman, who ran a hotel near the sprawling Masingo slums, in his hotel.

Events leading to his death were still unclear by the time of going to press yesterday. Neighbours interviewed said they became curious when they realised Ingosi’s hotel door was wide open, and upon calling his name, he did not respond.

When they entered, they found his body lying on the floor, the throat slit.

“I have known Doctor for over 10 years and he has never hurt anybody. Whoever killed him must be a heartless person because the deceased never provoked people,” a resident said.

Officers from Kakamega Police Station collected the body and took it to Kakamega County General Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Kakamega OCPD David Kabena said investigation into Ingosi’s death had started, and called on anyone with relevant information to contact the police.

Mr Kabena asked residents to be patient and give police time to do their work, including increasing surveillance in the slums.

Those interviewed said the slum had in the recent past witnessed increased cases of crime. They said many people had been robbed and beaten by unknown attackers.

“We are asking police to beef up security in this area, especially at night. We are forced to close down our businesses as early as 8pm for fear of being attacked by robbers,” said Ingosi’s neighbour, who declined to be named.
